Jules AGARD: Jules AGARD (1905-1986) studied throwing at Jérôme MASSIER pottery, and in 1939 he moved to the MADOURA workshop in VALLAURIS. The name "Madoura" derives from the names of its founder, Suzanne Ramié, born Douly, in 1938. Pablo PICASSO joined them after 1946, he painted and glazed large pieces of pottery thrown by Jules AGARD, and they had a long lasting partnership together. Then Jules AGARD progressively moved from objects made from familiar forms such as vases, jugs and bowls, to purely sculptural shapes becoming art, and he created his own designs. Often these pieces paralleled PICASSO's work in their whimsy and earthy imagination.
